Frosty Mornings and Lettuce Greens
Thanksgiving has come and gone, and now December is here! As the semester here approaches its end and finals loom closer and closer, it is so nice to go out to our garden and check up on everything, even when it is super frosty and chilly (see the above picture). Thankfully, our chickens are coping with the cold nights just fine in their new home!I went out to the garden Friday morning to check and see how the season extension methods are doing. The day before, Michelle, Judith, and Marie harvested lots of lettuce greens for the Boars Head Chef. Those greens are looking so fresh and, well, green! For our season extension, we're having some problems with our row cover. With all of the wind out there at Morven, the row cover keeps blowing off of the plants. Most of our row cover is now secured with bricks though, and that seems to be working. All of our season extension methods are doing their thing and protecting the plants; I looked at our control group plants with no season extension covering them and they are much smaller and colder looking. Go team!
