How to Go Rock Hunting
It was a good thing that the CSA ended last week because pretty much all that we picked today was lettuce and Swiss Chard. That being said, I do have a slightly ridiculous amount of Swiss Chard in my fridge right now. It's a good thing it cooks down so much! I'm going to have some yummy sautes this week.We put up some more row covers this morning over the cabbages, broccoli, and cauliflower, but it was so windy! We hunted around for rocks for a while to hold down the cover, and I realized that this is such a useful skill to have! Alison, who was helping us out this morning, had a particular knack for finding them. I hope that our rocking-seeking-and-finding skills paid off and the row covers survived the wind.On a side note, this week was Farm-to-School, and today I volunteered at Yancey Elementary School. The kids were so fun! We had a giant poster and we were asking them to draw what they would see in a garden or on a farm on it. Some of them got pretty creative with their drawings! One kid drew shoes (Nike Airs), and another drew a machine for picking apples. I had such a great time helping out there!
