This Week at the Garden: Cville Market

Date: September 22, 2022

Blog Post by: Brookelyn Mitchell

As one of University of Virginia’s most anticipated and prized event series of the year, the first of several Cville Market pop ups was a huge success! Hosted by UVA Dine in the Amphitheater, this event emphasizes the importance of learning the origin and impact of your food choices, supporting local businesses, and creating community ties. For the first time this season, we were able to sell beautiful pumpkins and winter squash.

Between freshly harvested potatoes, okra, tomatoes, squash, pumpkins, eggplants, garlic, green beans, and more, students had a wide selection of goods to choose from that they normally don’t have easy access to outside of dining halls. Evidently, our incredible produce was highly sought after, as we sold out of cherry tomatoes and flowers halfway through the event!

As UVA’s Sustainability Lab, MKG loves interacting and engaging in conversations with students relating to food and environmentalism! Although the Cville Market is one of our favorite events, nothing beets (see what I did there?) the excitement of having eager volunteers at MKG on our Volunteer Days every Friday. We would love to have you join us in the garden; sign up for an enlightening and rejuvenating shift through our eventbrite page!

See you around the garden!  Brookelyn Mitchell, MKG Farm Student Intern
